SMS Environmental is thrilled to announce that it will be transitioning the responsibility and authority of the organisation to its new CEO, Mike Crook, and his newly formed Senior Leadership Team.
The Senior Leadership Team forms a powerful partnership that combines forward-thinking strategies and an inclusive mindset, propelling our company towards unparalleled success.
The members of our exceptional new Senior Leadership Team are:
- Toby Maddox as Chief Operations Officer (COO)
- Lee Bainbrigge as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
- David Clift as Chief People Officer (CPO)
- Michelle Croston as Head of Finance (HOF)
I’m really excited to get started and begin working with this talented group of individuals who are experts in their given fields. I have no doubt that we will be a high performing team who will help drive the growth of SMS Environmental in the years ahead.

As the new Chief Operations Officer, Toby will be working to achieve the company’s strategic objectives. He will be tasked with spearheading SMS’ growth strategy and further strengthening its position as one of the leading water treatment companies in the UK.
I’ve been here for 16 years, and it’s been brilliant to get first-hand experience of the range of activities the teams that we lead will be doing. Excellence is an attitude, and we stand proudly behind our exceptional people, products and services, with quality that exceeds expectations.

As the newly appointed Chief People Officer, David will support our culture and commitment to our people and will span learning and development, people operations, talent, and internal communications.
It’s a privilege to serve as the Chief People Officer here at SMS Environmental. Although I am rather new to the company, it feels great to be rewarded for my hard work, dedication, and vision of making SMS Environmental a people-centred organisation. SMS promotes a customer-focused culture, building personal connections, and creating a friendly, family-like atmosphere.

We have appointed Lee Bainbrigge as the Chief Marketing Officer. He will be responsible for leading the marketing team and supporting SMS Environmental in accelerating the brand’s growth, with a particular focus on customer experience and innovation.
From a marketing standpoint, the vision I have for SMS Environmental is to be the best out there. To continue our legacy of exceeding standards, staying fiercely independent and ensuring clear visibility across the board. It’s an exciting time for us, and we’re working on some exciting projects. Lee Bainbrigge, Chief Marketing Officer
Michelle has been appointed as our new Head of Finance. As well as leading and developing the financial operations of the business, her responsibilities include contributing to its overall growth strategy and business plan by delivering value-added insights from a financial perspective.
As an organisation, we are driven by people that do what it takes to get the job done, giving our best effort and approaching every day with a positive attitude. As you can imagine, leading the financial operations of any company is a challenge, but at SMS it’s definitely worthwhile. The growth we’ve seen over the last year is testament to that.
