SMS ENVIRONMENTAL HAS EARNED A CARBON FOOTPRINT CERTIFICATE

SMS Environmental is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Carbon Footprint Certificate by Go Climate Positive. This certification commemorates our continued commitment to lowering our carbon footprint, producing environmental control training courses and consultation services that support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 13: 'taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts'.

Go Climate Positive is a community of businesses determined to take positive steps to tackle the climate emergency. They assist companies with calculating and offsetting their carbon footprint.

Here at SMS Environmental, we are always striving to improve our way of doing things - paying particular attention to sustainability and the environment.

Understanding our carbon impact has been a worthwhile process. By nature, the work we do generates more carbon than a purely office based function. That is why we are more committed than ever to find new ways of reducing our carbon footprint.

Chemicals in the Environment

The engineers at SMS Environmental use only the highest quality industrial and commercial water treatment chemicals - most of which are formulated by Water Treatment Products. We understand that chemicals in their nature aren’t always sustainable and environmentally friendly. However, Water Treatment Products’ supplier Sdiptech published a sustainability report in 2021, where it launched its long-term sustainability goals in line with the UN’s SDGs, developed its Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting and announced plans to include sustainability in the strategy work with all companies.

SMS Environmental has also explored the environmental benefits of using filming amines over traditional chemical treatments for closed-circuit water systems. Traditional chemical treatments can be harmful to the environment, as they can contain toxic chemicals that can leach into the surrounding soil and water. Filming amines, on the other hand, are non-toxic and biodegradable, which makes them a safer and more sustainable option.

Fleet in the Environment

The government announced plans for all new vehicles to be electrified by 2030

Here at SMS Environmental, we are committed to lowering our carbon emissions by switching from diesel-powered to hybrid or fully electric vehicles.

We understand the constraints that our engineers face when transporting heavy equipment at long distances, and the lack of rapid charging points available en-route. This has sparked an investigation into the feasibility of installing electric vehicle chargers in the homes of our engineers.

Sustainable Branding

SMS Environmental sources its merchandise and apparel from a sustainability-minded supplier. A great example of this is BrandKube. The materials used in their corporate merchandise are sourced with ethical and environmental considerations.

All livery items for our fleet vehicles are sourced by Adept Graphics. Adept Graphics is proudly carbon neutral, often investing in initiatives and activities that will help offset its carbon footprint.

Corporate Responsibility

SMS Environmental has partnered with River Thame Conservation Trust on the Rivers Week 2023 campaign, a weeklong series of community-run events culminating on World Rivers Day (25th September). The aim of this partnership is to raise awareness and inspire action for the rivers and streams in the Thame catchment.
