Ian had been a plumber since the age of 16 and was looking to advance as a PPM Supervisor at SMS Environmental. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his plans, causing a shift in demand. With an increased need for planned preventative maintenance work and a decrease in complex plumbing and remedial jobs, Ian unfortunately found himself in a situation where he needed to find a new role.

Ian made the difficult decision to explore other job opportunities, hoping for a position that would better align with his career goals. However, his experience with a competitor company turned out to be far from satisfactory. He discovered that he was the only plumber in the company, supervising himself with minimal support. The lack of organisation and professionalism quickly became apparent, leaving Ian with a profound sense of regret.

After a few hours of taking the new job, I realised I made a huge mistake -sold a dream, and the opportunity did not pan out to what I was told.

My team is really good - they’re a great bunch of lads, never had any issues. Plumbers look after themselves, makes my job a lot easier - and gives me time to focus on trainees.
