Advancing from Operations Coordinator to Regional Team Leader

Tammy joined SMS in 2018 as a Part-Time Operations Coordinator, overseeing risk assessment operations across Wales and the South West. Recognising her strong background in plumbing and maintenance insurance and growing up around her father’s building work– Tammy has a solid background within maintenance insurance, reactive maintenance, and plumbing co-ordination for commercial and residential properties. SMS supported Tammy’s career growth, and her expertise led her to manage operations coordination for our Plumbing Remedial teams, which equipped her well for the challenges ahead.

Promotion to Leadership

As Tammy settled into her role, her strong work ethic and ability to manage complex tasks didn’t go unnoticed. Recognising her potential, management promoted her to Regional Service Delivery Team Leader after restructuring the department, which had grown too large for one person to handle. This transition allowed her to refocus on plumbing and remedials while taking on greater leadership responsibilities.

Managing a Dynamic Team

Currently, Tammy now leads a team of Operations Coordinators, managing seamless coordination of plumbing and remedial jobs across Wales and the South West. Her key duties include job planning, scheduling, reporting on job completion metrics, and overseeing task forecasting to ensure team efficiency. She actively supports the Engineers, fostering a positive work environment by leading monthly Engineer’s meetings, providing constructive feedback, communicating updates, and addressing any necessary changes. Tammy also oversees task allocation and management for the engineers. Known for her problem-solving skills, she has earned the trust of both the engineers and her office team, who regularly seek her guidance, and plays a pivotal role in maintaining smooth operations and delivering results

A Supportive Work Environment

Tammy describes the atmosphere at SMS as collaborative and supportive, highlighting the strong relationships formed within her team.

Everyone works well together, it’s a nice environment filled with banter and fun. As long as you treat people well, they reciprocate.

This sense of camaraderie and teamwork has motivated her to stay with SMS, where new challenges continuously arise, keeping her engaged and fulfilled.

A Diverse Career Path

Tammy’s diverse career has provided a solid foundation for her current role. After earning a Business degree, she excelled in UK-wide Contracts Management, while also gaining hands-on experience in plumbing and pursuing entrepreneurial ventures. Her technical skills were further enhanced with an HNC in Computing and a passion for web design. This unique blend of expertise has enriched her abilities, positioning her to thrive at SMS.
