Engineer goes the extra mile for residents

In the midst of the second wave of COVID-19, SMS Environmental and specifically Water Treatment Engineer, Mark Evans carried a number of disinfections at residential blocks for a local city council.

All engineers were aware that during this project, the safety of staff and customers was paramount and therefore adequate PPE and safety measures needed to be carefully implemented in order for works to be carried out in accordance with government guidelines that were in place at the time.

Residents were rightly concerned with anyone coming in and operating in their building but despite this Mark could have just carried out the work the building manager had requested to be undertaken. However, he took it upon himself, using the appropriate safety measures, to explain why he was there, the reason for the work being requested and took time to inform them of what he would be doing every step of the process. Highlighting the measures he and the company had taken both with PPE and additional safety measures.

As a result, disinfections were carried out successfully and the client personally contacted SMS Environmental to inform senior management just how pleased they were with how professional Mark was whilst conducting his duties. Residents of the building also stated that they were blown away by the level of PPE and methodical cleanliness he demonstrated during the visit.

It’s also important to note that SMS had taken every step to inform clients of our change to procedures, safety measures and worked with them to provide proportional management of their premises. However, in some cases, residents weren't always aware of the information provided prior to the visit and concerns were understandable, so it goes without saying we are so pleased we have engineers like Mark who go the extra mile and show the CLEAR value of LEADERSHIP in the little things they do along the way, taking time to reassure residents being just a small example of what comes naturally to him. Leadership!
