Oxford City Council Water Hygiene, Monitoring, Legionella Risk Assessments & Training
SMS Environmental provides a full and comprehensive package of water hygiene and planned maintenance monitoring services for Oxford City Council's property portfolio which includes over three hundred residential properties and more than fifty commercial buildings including private homes, flats and care-homes. We also fulfil the same role within OCC’s void housing stock.
Through Oxford City Council (OCC) we have gained valuable experience with regard to dealing with private residents and their respective needs as opposed to commercial contacts.
The contract was originally divided into smaller sub-contracts, including Estates, Housing, Car Parks, Depots & New Tanks Project with SMS originally awarded only one lot. However, based on performance and assurance levels SMS were latterly awarded further lots originally fulfilled by other suppliers.
The SMS contract managers they employ are always at the end of the phone and are really professional/friendly in their approach, as are the engineers and assessors that carry out work activities on our sites.

We have deployed specific resources to our contract with OCC from our regional office located in the County.
The task instructions detail the required skill set to complete the job. This is matched against each engineers specific skill sets which links directly from our HR computer system. This gives OCC peace of mind that a trained and competent engineer is always deployed.
Tasks are dispatched to the engineer’s tablet computer and coordinated against their calendar to which all contract team members have access. Once the task is completed, updates are made in real time, providing performance information and monitoring facility for our management team.
SMS Environmental Ltd have consistently provided excellent service to Oxford City Council during this contracted period. They are subject matter experts and are swift to react to any issue raised by us or significant hazard they identify. The Opuz software system that is part of the package is very reliable and really easy to use, for us to administer/mitigate legionella/scalding hazards. Overall, SMS are an excellent solid outfit that gives me confidence that our legionella and scalding risks are well managed to reduce risks to as low as reasonably practicable!
