John Sandford CMIOSH, elected to WMSoc Council
John Sandford CMIOSH director of water hygiene specialists SMS Environmental has today been voted onto the council of the Water Management Society (WMSoc).
John is one of the founders and Health and Safety Director at SMS Environmental, a UKAS accredited Legionella Risk Assessment provider and a national supplier of water hygiene services to over 1000 organisations across the U.K. He has a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for improving the standards of the industry he works in.
He is a qualified and experienced authorising engineer - water; Has over 30 years practical and research experience in the field of water treatment and Legionella control and has expertise in the application of Health and Safety Law in this area. Completing the UKAS Assessors and Lead Assessors course to enable external auditing of any health and safety management system.
He formed SMS Environmental Ltd in 2001, the company now employs 135 people and in 2019/2020 had revenues in excess of £8 Million; In 2014 he led the Risk Assessment Team into becoming one of the few UK Companies to gain UKAS Accreditation to ISO17020 (UKAS Accreditation Number - 8563).
He intends to become a proactive member of the committee and will offers his experience to subcommittees where of use.
On his announcement John added,

I am a long-time advocate of improving education and training in water management and have always seen WMSoc as an invaluable resource and in alignment to this goal.
WMSoc really does have outstanding members. I am looking forward to help continue its good work, working with Ian Kershaw the new Chair, the council and the committee members, sharing my ideas for the future to move the WMSoc forward. It should be an exciting few years.”
John offers consultancy services in the field of Private Water Supplies and compliance with the 2009 regulations; including training.
The Legionella training courses he has helped develop take a holistic approach and provide exposure to both theoretical and practical experience, an approach he has long believed to aid a more well-rounded, long term competency. They are City & Guilds Assured and qualifies for CPD points.
